Athiyaman Neduman Anji was the king of a small region with Thakadur as its capital. Thakadur is modern Dharmapuri. Poet Avvaiyār and the king were good friends. He gave a very special nelli to Avvaiyār. He died in a battle with Cheramān Peruncheral Irumporai trying to protect his Thakadur from the Cheran king. Avvaiyār was in great pain at the loss of her friend and benefactor.
